Azealia Banks was Fed Up at Wynwood PRIDE 2022

American rapper, Azealia Banks is under fire for dropping her microphone and being escorted off stage. She was four songs into her set, and left fans disappointed by her unwillingness to perform.

Throughout her set she complained about what she expressed to be poor organization by event planners. Promoters flip flopped over if she would be a headliner for the show, and inconvenienced her work schedule due to their poor time management. Acknowledging that her fans and audience members were not at fault, it appears that Banks was not in an energetic position to do her best at Wynwood’s PRIDE celebration. According to TMZ, Banks was jerked around throughout the process which led to an unwillingness to perform. Mind you, she kept performing until she was given stage cues to stop performing.

Arguably, rain or shine performers should recognize their obligation to satisfy their followers— does that obligation still hold when the behind-the-scenes-crew express a lack of respect for the artist? It appears to be customary for artists to preach, rant, and express themselves in a variety of ways onstage. It is a part of their performance and how they develop a bond with their audience. Whether or not an artist is doing a great job at bonding is subject to the opinion of the audience. Which will surely reflect post show.

Azealia Banks did bring low energy on stage, as she explained. It appears that once her mic was cut during the performance she was then unable to perform. She was escorted off stage. What else could she had done in that situation? Other than fake a smile, which might not be true to her art. Personally, I feel for Azealia Banks. Dealing with people who are seemingly incompetent and lack an appreciation for the labor, time, and expenses it takes to perform is frustrating. Given that Azealia Banks is by far not the only artist that relates to their audience by sharing what’s on their mind, the clear expectation is for Wynwood PRIDE organizers to do a better job next time... If people want artists to be at the top of their game, they need to show the artist that they value their art. Azealia Banks is a celebrity, she should be treated that way. If Azealia was unable to perform because her mic was cut, it seems as though the Wynwood PRIDE crew were ushering her off stage way before she was escorted off. "I was originally booked for a 10pm set, which promoter moved to 1am, Completely inconveniencing every single member of my team," she continued. "A phone was thrown on stage - proof the festival could not afford licensed security, ancient equipment - and a pig in the front who had the audacity to spit water from his hpv lesion infested mouth."

From what reports show, it looks like Azealia Banks was fed up with a poorly executed event.
