The Astrological Feelings Wheel
Please excuse my lumpy circle, nothing about the process of identifying feelings is a perfect practice.
Hello Celestial beings, my name is Six and I’m a writer, astrologer, and MSW. A part of my work includes studying astrological literature, psychology, and sociology to create content that makes sense to the modern audience. My belief is the more we understand ourselves and the world around us the easier it’ll be to be human.
My understanding of a human isn’t that we are god-like creatures, we are animals. To be human means to be caring, humane, and compassionate. As we age and experience all that life has to offer, we will be met with challenges that have the potential to bring out the worst in us. It is normal to have feelings that aren’t ideal or push us out our comfort zones. Within our lifetimes we are likely to experience anger, disgust, and sadness. Being able to identify which feeling we are experiencing and recognize how we express our emotions in a healthy way one of the keys to maturing into our best selves.
Maturity does not mean that you won’t experience feelings of upset, nor does it mean you won’t have moments where you lash out. Again, we are humans therefore it is expected that we will have some form of a reaction. The purpose of building emotional awareness is to increase our likelihood of managing out emotions.
I’m a firm believer of astrology being a powerful tool to help us understand ourselves, which is why I created the astrological feelings wheel. The wheel includes the 10 planets that appear within our birth chart and each planet is associated with a feeling. Of course, this feelings wheel is a mild simplification of how your feelings will express themselves. That being said, I do think it is helpful to recognize each planet as a representation of a particular feeling.
For example, the Moon represents our sadness because the Moon is associated with emotions. My Moon is in the sign Cancer, a Cardinal water sign. I have no issues identifying when I’m sad, the Moon rules Cancer which means I’ve always had an easy time identifying when my feelings are hurt. For those of us with our Moon in Cancer, we are likely to react to our sadness with tears, tending to other people’s needs, eating comfort foods, or resting.
As opposed to my Sun in Sagittarius, which is very adventurous and playful when experiencing feelings of joy (in my feelings wheel the Sun symbolizes joy). When in a great mood I enjoy going to book stores, traveling to new places, listening to podcasts, and learning new things! They are all activities that genuinely make me happy, which isn’t to say I don’t intellectualize my feelings when I’m upset (I do, to be fair my sun and moon are trine each other)
That is why in the center of the wheel there are no lines that contain one feeling from another. In my opinion, we rarely experience feelings in isolation. We are more likely to feel a mix or a range of feelings, especially if the situations we are responding to are complicated. You could experience joy because you found an apartment in a new city while also experiencing sadness (at the same time) because you’re leaving your family! Recently, I felt a mixture of joy and anger and realized that when thought about it, I also felt the in between feelings of surprise and powerful.
This feelings wheel was created with the knowledge that feelings can evolve into each other, overlap, exist simultaneously, last for 60 seconds, or dictate our moods. The worst feeling is having feelings that can’t be defined, so I really do hope you find this feelings wheel helpful.
If you need a copy of your birth chart head over to www.Astro.com or download the app “Co —— Star” to attain your birth chart. BTW you don’t need your birth time to figure out where the planets were at the moment of your birth, the luminaries are a different conversation.
